A summary of what my Morocco hitch involves

By Eleanore Titmus

Lemsfordonline has been built to provide local people with a forum to inform the community of what is happening. I found out that a local member of our community Eleanore Titmus was Hitch hiking to Morocco in aid of Link Community Development. Eleanore and her family are part of St Johns Church bell ringing team and I hope her adventure will be of interest and if you wish to sponsor her please go to http://www.justgiving.com/eleanoretitmus
or email support to chapman.lc@btinternet.com

During the Easter holidays 19 year old WGC resident Eleanore Titmus has taken up the challenge of hitch-hiking to Morocco.  Ex Bishop's Hatfield student Eleanore, who is now studying at the University of York, will be undertaking this marathon journey with two fellow York students to raise money for Link Community Development (LCD). The 1600 mile journey will see her hitching her way out of the UK, through France and Spain, and finishing up in Morocco and Eleanore needs to raise a minimum of £300 for LCD.

Link Community Development (reg charity no 1048007) works in Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa and Uganda to improve education in some of the poorest areas by running projects for schools and teachers in partnership with local government departments and other non-governmental organisations.

Eleanore says "In the UK education is something we take very much for granted and I have been extremely fortunate to have had excellent schooling at St John’s School, Lemsford and Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School.  Last summer I had the opportunity to work in a school in Honduras where the children had to walk several miles and the school itself was very basic and lacked most of the items to which we don’t give a second thought.  However, the children were very happy and eager to learn and it made me feel very humble.  From that experience I know that every penny sent really does make a difference to these poor communities”.

“I do not know what lies ahead – we set off on 16 March and the only thing definite is that I have booked a flight back on 5 April - but I know that we will be helping to enrich the lives of many children much less fortunate than ourselves.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring Eleanore for this worthwhile cause can go to http://www.justgiving.com/eleanoretitmus
Any donations big or small would be most gratefully received.
